The MERIT BRASS 8006-450 is a Schedule 40 aluminum pipe nipple machined from 6061 aluminum alloy. It measures 3/8 inch nominal pipe size by 4.5 inches in length and is threaded on both ends for direct connection into standard NPT fittings. Weighing 0.1 pounds, this nipple is well suited for lightweight plumbing, pneumatic, and fluid-handling applications where corrosion resistance and reduced weight matter. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this type of fitting in systems where steel or brass would add unnecessary weight or create galvanic concerns.
This pipe nipple is used in residential and light commercial piping systems, pneumatic supply lines, compressed air distribution, and low-pressure fluid transport. The 6061 aluminum alloy offers solid strength-to-weight performance and resists corrosion in many common service environments. Its Schedule 40 wall thickness meets standard pressure ratings for typical small-diameter piping installations. The 4.5-inch length makes it useful as a close extension nipple between fittings, valves, and threaded equipment connections.
Designed as a standard NPT-threaded replacement or extension nipple for 3/8 inch Schedule 40 piping systems that require aluminum construction.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters following applicable IPC or IFGC guidelines for the service fluid and pressure rating. Apply appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for aluminum fittings before assembly. Do not overtighten aluminum threads, as the alloy is more susceptible to galling than steel or brass. Shut off and depressurize the line fully before removing or installing any pipe nipple.
