The MERIT BRASS 8006-400 is a 3/8-inch x 4-inch 6061 aluminum pipe nipple designed for threaded piping assemblies in plumbing, pneumatic, and light industrial applications. Manufactured to Schedule 40 wall thickness, this nipple is threaded on both ends and is ready for immediate installation into standard NPT fittings. At 0.066 pounds, it is a lightweight component suited for systems where corrosion resistance and weight savings are priorities. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers, though experienced mechanical contractors also work with nipples of this type in pneumatic and fluid-handling systems.
This nipple is appropriate for residential and light commercial piping runs where aluminum construction is preferred over steel, such as compressed air lines, low-pressure fluid distribution, and certain chemical-resistant applications. The 6061 alloy offers good machinability and resistance to corrosion in typical service environments. At 3/8-inch nominal diameter and 4 inches in length, it fits standard close-coupled or offset connections in tight spaces where a longer nipple or union would be impractical.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation component for 3/8-inch NPT threaded piping systems using Schedule 40 nipples.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified pipefitter in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off and depressurize the system completely before removing or installing any threaded pipe component. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service fluid before making up connections. Do not over-tighten aluminum nipples, as the alloy is softer than steel and threads can be damaged by excessive torque.
