The MERIT BRASS 8006-250 is a 3/8 inch x 2.5 inch aluminum pipe nipple manufactured from 6061 aluminum alloy to Schedule 40 wall thickness. It is threaded on both ends with NPT threads, making it a close-coupled connector for joining pipe fittings, valves, and equipment in fluid or gas piping systems. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this type of nipple when a lightweight, corrosion-resistant connection is required in place of steel. The 6061 alloy provides solid machinability and resistance to atmospheric corrosion. At 0.038 pounds, this nipple is suited to applications where weight is a consideration.
This nipple is used in residential and light commercial plumbing, compressed air, and low-pressure fluid distribution systems where aluminum is a code-acceptable material. The 3/8 inch diameter and 2.5 inch length make it a standard close nipple for tight-clearance installations between fittings or at equipment ports. It is not intended for systems requiring steel or where aluminum is prohibited by code or fluid compatibility requirements.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for 3/8 inch NPT threaded piping systems using Schedule 40 aluminum pipe components.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable IPC or IFGC code requirements for the system type. Shut off and depressurize the line before removing or installing any pipe nipple. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for aluminum and compatible with the system fluid before threading the nipple into fittings. Do not overtighten; aluminum threads are more susceptible to galling and stripping than steel.
