The MERIT BRASS 8004-550 is a 6061 aluminum pipe nipple designed for threaded pipe assemblies in plumbing, industrial, and mechanical systems. Measuring 1/4 inch nominal diameter by 5.5 inches in length, it is threaded on both ends and manufactured to Schedule 40 wall thickness. The 6061 aluminum alloy provides a favorable strength-to-weight ratio along with corrosion resistance, making it a practical choice where steel weight or rust potential is a concern. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of nipple when connecting threaded fittings, valves, or equipment in low-pressure fluid and gas distribution lines.
This nipple is suited for residential and light commercial applications where 1/4 inch NPT connections are required. Typical installations include instrument lines, compressed air distribution, water supply branch connections, and pneumatic control tubing systems. The 5.5-inch length provides enough extension to clear close-quarter obstructions between fittings. Its aluminum construction makes it appropriate for systems where weight savings or galvanic compatibility with aluminum components is a consideration.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation component for 1/4 inch NPT threaded pipe systems requiring Schedule 40 aluminum nipples.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter. Shut off and depressurize the line before removing or installing any threaded nipple. Apply appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before making up the joint. Do not overtighten aluminum fittings, as the material is softer than steel and susceptible to thread damage under excessive torque. Ensure the connected system is compatible with aluminum to avoid galvanic corrosion at dissimilar-metal joints.
