The MERIT BRASS 8004-500 is a 6061 aluminum pipe nipple designed for threaded piping assemblies in light industrial, plumbing, and mechanical systems. Measuring 1/4 inch nominal pipe size by 5 inches in length, it is threaded on both ends for direct connection between fittings, valves, or equipment ports. Manufactured to Schedule 40 wall thickness from 6061 aluminum alloy, it offers a favorable strength-to-weight ratio and corrosion resistance suitable for air, water, and select fluid service lines. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this type of nipple as a close or run nipple in low-pressure piping systems.
This nipple is suited for residential and light commercial applications where aluminum is the specified material, including compressed air lines, irrigation headers, and instrument piping. Its 1/4 inch nominal size makes it a common fit for control line connections, gauge ports, and branch takeoffs in systems where steel corrosion is a concern. The Schedule 40 wall thickness meets standard load requirements for general-purpose threaded pipe assemblies.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation component for 1/4 inch NPT threaded piping systems requiring aluminum Schedule 40 pipe nipples.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters following applicable IPC and IFGC guidelines for threaded pipe assemblies. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before removing or installing any threaded nipple. Apply appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before making up the joint. Do not over-torque aluminum fittings, as the alloy is softer than steel and threads can be damaged with excessive force.
