The MERIT BRASS 8002-550 is a Schedule 40 aluminum pipe nipple designed for threaded pipe assemblies in light-duty fluid and gas distribution systems. Machined from 6061 aluminum alloy, this nipple measures 1/8 inch nominal pipe size at 5.5 inches in length and is threaded on both ends for direct connection between fittings, valves, or pipe runs. The 6061 alloy provides good corrosion resistance and strength-to-weight ratio suited for low-pressure plumbing, pneumatic, and instrumentation applications. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this type of nipple where a standard close or long nipple is needed in a threaded aluminum piping system.
This pipe nipple is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing, pneumatic lines, compressed air systems, and instrumentation tubing where aluminum is preferred over steel or brass for weight savings or corrosion considerations. The 1/8-inch NPT size is common in instrument ports, gauge connections, and small-bore distribution lines. Both-end threading allows direct make-up into any standard NPT female fitting without additional machining.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting compatible with standard 1/8-inch NPT threaded pipe systems using Schedule 40 aluminum pipe and fittings.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable IPC or IFGC code requirements for the system type. Apply thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the fluid or gas service before make-up. Avoid over-torquing aluminum NPT threads, as the alloy is softer than steel and susceptible to galling or thread damage. Shut off and depressurize the system fully before removing or installing any threaded fitting.
