The MERIT BRASS 8002-400 is a Schedule 40 aluminum pipe nipple machined from 6061 aluminum alloy. It measures 1/8 inch nominal pipe size by 4 inches in length and is threaded on both ends for direct connection to standard NPT fittings. At 0.03 pounds, it is a lightweight solution suited for low-pressure fluid and gas distribution lines where corrosion resistance and weight savings matter. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters typically install this nipple as part of small-bore instrumentation, pneumatic, or utility piping assemblies.
This nipple is well suited for residential and light commercial plumbing, pneumatic, and instrumentation applications where aluminum construction is preferred over steel or brass. The 6061 alloy provides good machinability and corrosion resistance in dry or mildly corrosive environments. It is a practical choice for compressed air distribution, low-pressure fluid lines, and similar small-bore systems. OSHA compliance is noted for applicable workplace installations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting compatible with standard 1/8 inch NPT threaded fittings and piping systems using Schedule 40 aluminum nipples.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified pipefitter following applicable IPC or IFGC guidelines. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply thread sealant or PTFE tape appropriate for aluminum pipe threads. Avoid overtightening, as 6061 aluminum threads can gall or strip under excessive torque.
