The MERIT BRASS 8002-001 is a 6061 aluminum pipe nipple designed for threaded pipe assemblies in light-duty fluid and gas distribution systems. Measuring 1/8 inch nominal pipe size by 3/4 inch in length, this Schedule 40 nipple is threaded on both ends for direct connection between fittings, valves, or equipment ports. The 6061 aluminum alloy construction provides good corrosion resistance at a reduced weight compared to steel, making it a practical choice for applications where weight savings or non-ferrous materials are required. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors are the typical installers of this fitting.
This nipple is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing, pneumatic, and low-pressure fluid systems where aluminum is an acceptable pipe material. The 1/8 inch thread size is commonly found at instrument ports, pressure gauge connections, drain taps, and small branch takeoffs. Its compact 3/4 inch length makes it useful in tight-clearance installations where a close or shoulder nipple is needed. Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for 1/8 inch NPT threaded pipe systems using Schedule 40 aluminum pipe and compatible aluminum or brass fittings.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter following applicable IPC or IFGC code requirements for the system type. Shut off system pressure and depressurize the line completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly, and tighten using a pipe wrench sized to the fitting — do not over-torque aluminum fittings as the alloy is softer than steel and threads can strip. Verify system pressure rating is within the Schedule 40 limits for the fluid and temperature conditions at the installation point.
