The MERIT BRASS 6524-1000 is a Schedule 80 seamless stainless steel pipe nipple sized for 1-1/2 inch pipe. Manufactured from Grade 316 and 316L stainless steel, it provides superior corrosion resistance in demanding fluid and gas piping systems. The seamless construction eliminates weld seams, reducing potential leak points and improving pressure integrity. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this type of nipple in industrial, commercial, and heavy-duty residential piping runs where standard carbon steel or 304 stainless would face accelerated corrosion from chlorides, acids, or caustic process fluids.
This pipe nipple is suited for use in plumbing, HVAC hydronic systems, chemical process lines, marine applications, and food-service or sanitary piping where Grade 316 or 316L stainless is specified. Schedule 80 wall thickness supports higher-pressure applications compared to Schedule 40, making it appropriate for process piping, boiler rooms, and mechanical rooms with elevated system pressures. It threads onto standard NPT fittings and valves sized for 1-1/2 inch pipe.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation component for 1-1/2 inch NPT threaded piping systems requiring Schedule 80 Grade 316 or 316L stainless steel pipe nipples.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable IPC or ASME B31 piping codes. Shut off and depressurize the affected piping system completely before removing or installing any threaded nipple. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service fluid and temperature before threading the nipple into fittings. Avoid over-torquing stainless steel threads, as galling can occur — use a proper pipe wrench and follow standard torque practice for stainless NPT connections.
