The MERIT BRASS 6516-1000 is a seamless stainless steel pipe nipple designed for threaded piping systems in demanding industrial, mechanical, and plumbing applications. Built to Schedule 80 wall thickness, it handles higher pressure loads than standard Schedule 40 fittings. The Grade 316 and 316L dual certification provides strong corrosion resistance, making it suitable for exposure to chlorides, acids, and other aggressive media. At 1.42 pounds, this is a solid, full-bodied fitting appropriate for installations where pressure integrity and material compatibility are both critical. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the typical installers for this type of threaded nipple in process, HVAC, and utility piping runs.
This nipple is sized for 1 inch pipe with matching 1 inch threaded connections on both ends. Schedule 80 construction makes it well suited for higher-pressure service lines, chemical transfer piping, marine environments, food processing, and corrosive fluid handling where carbon steel or lower-grade stainless would be inadequate. Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or certified pipefitter. Shut off and depressurize the line fully before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant rated for stainless steel and the media being conveyed. Avoid over-torquing NPT threads on stainless fittings, as galling is a known risk with 316 alloys — use anti-seize compound or PTFE tape as specified by the applicable piping code such as ASME B31.1 or B31.3.
