The MERIT BRASS 6506-400 is a seamless stainless steel pipe nipple designed for demanding piping systems where corrosion resistance and pressure integrity are required. Manufactured from Grade 316/316L stainless steel and built to Schedule 80 wall thickness, this nipple delivers greater wall strength than standard Schedule 40 fittings, making it suitable for higher-pressure and corrosive-fluid applications. At 0.236 pounds, it is a compact fitting sized for 3/8-inch pipe. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this type of fitting when connecting pipe runs or transitioning between components in fluid or gas distribution systems.
This pipe nipple is suited for residential and commercial plumbing, HVAC hydronic systems, chemical processing lines, and marine or coastal installations where chloride corrosion resistance is a priority. Grade 316/316L stainless steel provides improved resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion compared to Grade 304, making it a common choice for aggressive media, saltwater environments, and food-grade or sanitary piping applications. The 3/8-inch pipe size fits standard NPT-threaded fittings, valves, and equipment ports of the same nominal size.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for 3/8-inch Schedule 80 stainless steel piping systems using NPT-threaded connections.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters following applicable IPC and ASME B31 piping code requirements. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before removing or installing any threaded pipe fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the media and pressure class before threading the nipple into mating fittings. Do not over-tighten threaded connections, as stainless steel threads are susceptible to galling.
