The MERIT BRASS 6504-350 is a seamless stainless steel pipe nipple sized at 1/4 inch, manufactured to Schedule 80 wall thickness from Grade 316/316L stainless steel. Schedule 80 construction provides a heavier wall than standard Schedule 40, making this nipple suited for higher-pressure service where corrosion resistance is also required. Grade 316/316L stainless steel adds molybdenum to the alloy, which improves resistance to chloride and chemical corrosion compared to 304-series material. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this type of nipple in process piping, chemical service, marine environments, and food-grade or sanitary systems where carbon steel or brass fittings are not appropriate.
This pipe nipple is commonly installed in residential and commercial plumbing systems, as well as light industrial and process piping applications where corrosion resistance and pressure integrity are priorities. Typical use cases include chemical transfer lines, salt-water-exposed installations, steam service connections, and food processing or pharmaceutical piping where material purity and durability are required. The 1/4 inch thread size fits standard NPT connections at that size.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation nipple for 1/4 inch NPT piping systems requiring Schedule 80 seamless stainless steel construction.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable codes, including the International Plumbing Code (IPC) where adopted. Shut off system pressure and drain the line before removing or installing any threaded nipple. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service fluid and temperature before making up the connection. Do not over-tighten threaded connections, as stainless steel fittings are susceptible to galling.
