The MERIT BRASS 6502-450 is a seamless stainless steel pipe nipple designed for threaded pipe assemblies in demanding fluid and gas handling systems. Manufactured from Grade 316/316L stainless steel, it delivers strong resistance to corrosion and pitting in aggressive environments including chloride-bearing media, chemical process lines, and marine applications. The Schedule 80 wall thickness provides increased pressure-bearing capability compared to standard Schedule 40 fittings. At 1/8 inch pipe size, this nipple is suited for small-diameter instrument lines, sampling ports, and control system piping. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this type of fitting as a precision connection component in both new construction and retrofit work.
This nipple is appropriate for residential and commercial plumbing, industrial process piping, and HVAC hydronic systems where corrosion resistance and elevated pressure ratings are required. The 316/316L dual-grade designation makes it acceptable for both standard and low-carbon weld-adjacent applications. Typical installation scenarios include instrument takeoffs, gauge connections, valve body extensions, and chemical feed lines. The 1/8 inch threaded size is common in control and instrumentation piping where precise, leak-free joints are critical.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting compatible with 1/8 inch Schedule 80 threaded pipe systems using NPT connections in stainless steel piping assemblies.
Installation is typically performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters working under applicable plumbing and mechanical codes such as the IPC or ASME B31.3 for process piping. Shut off system pressure and drain the line before removing or installing threaded nipples. Apply a thread sealant rated for the media type — PTFE tape or anaerobic thread compound is commonly used on stainless NPT fittings. Avoid over-torquing, which can gall stainless threads; use proper pipe wrenches and follow joint makeup guidelines appropriate to Schedule 80 fittings.
