The MERIT BRASS 6502-200 is a seamless stainless steel pipe nipple designed for use in piping systems that demand corrosion resistance and high-pressure integrity. Manufactured from Grade 316 and 316L stainless steel, it offers superior resistance to chlorides, acids, and elevated temperatures compared to standard 304-grade fittings. The Schedule 80 wall thickness provides increased pressure capacity over Schedule 40 equivalents. At 1/8 inch pipe size with matching 1/8 inch thread, this nipple suits tight-clearance connections in instrumentation, chemical, and HVAC hydronic systems. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors are the typical installers.
This nipple is well suited for residential and commercial applications where stainless steel is specified by code or by system design. Common install scenarios include chemical process lines, food-service piping, marine environments, steam systems, and corrosive-fluid hydronic loops. The dual-grade 316 and 316L designation makes it compatible with both standard welded assemblies and low-carbon applications requiring minimal carbide precipitation. The 1/8 inch size is frequently used in gauge ports, instrument taps, and small-bore branch connections.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for 1/8 inch Schedule 80 threaded stainless steel piping systems.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable mechanical and plumbing codes such as the IPC or ASME B31.3. Shut off system pressure and depressurize the line completely before removing or installing any threaded nipple. Apply a compatible thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for stainless steel and the intended service fluid. Avoid over-torquing threaded connections on stainless fittings, as galling of the threads can occur without proper anti-seize compound or lubricated sealant.
