The MERIT BRASS 6064-450 is a welded stainless steel pipe nipple rated for Schedule 40 service in 4-inch pipe sizes. At 4.5 inches in length and fabricated from Grade 316/316L stainless steel, it delivers the corrosion resistance required in demanding plumbing, process piping, and industrial applications. The dual-grade 316/316L designation means the material meets both standard and low-carbon requirements, making it suitable for welded assemblies where sensitization must be avoided. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this nipple as a threaded connector between fittings, valves, or equipment flanges in systems handling water, steam, chemicals, or corrosive fluids.
This pipe nipple is suited for residential, commercial, and light industrial piping systems where stainless steel is specified for corrosion resistance or sanitary requirements. Typical applications include potable water supply lines, process fluid headers, chemical distribution systems, and marine or coastal installations where chloride exposure rules out carbon steel. The Schedule 40 wall thickness meets standard pressure ratings for most commercial service conditions.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-install component for 4-inch Schedule 40 threaded stainless steel piping systems.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters following applicable IPC and ASME B31 piping codes. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before removing or installing any threaded nipple. Use thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service fluid and temperature range. Avoid over-torquing threaded stainless connections, as galling can occur on stainless-to-stainless joints without proper anti-seize compound.
