The MERIT BRASS 6004-2400 is a welded stainless steel pipe nipple designed for use in fluid and gas piping systems where corrosion resistance is critical. Built to Schedule 40 wall thickness and manufactured from Grade 316/316L stainless steel, this nipple delivers reliable service in demanding environments including chemical exposure, high-moisture, and marine applications. The dual-grade 316/316L designation means the material meets both standard and low-carbon requirements, making it suitable for welded assemblies without post-weld heat treatment concerns. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this type of fitting in process piping, HVAC hydronic systems, and industrial plumbing where standard steel or brass fittings are not appropriate.
This 1/4 inch pipe nipple is suited for residential and commercial piping installations requiring Schedule 40 pressure ratings and stainless steel corrosion resistance. Typical applications include chemical feed lines, steam service, saltwater or coastal plumbing systems, and food-grade or sanitary piping where Grade 316 stainless is specified. It is commonly used in tight-space connections where a short close or hex nipple is needed to transition between threaded fittings, valves, or instrumentation ports.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting compatible with standard 1/4 inch NPT threaded piping systems requiring Schedule 40 Grade 316 or 316L stainless steel components.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters following IPC and applicable mechanical code requirements. Shut off system pressure and drain the line before removing or installing any threaded pipe nipple. Apply an appropriate thread sealant rated for the service fluid and temperature range. Do not over-torque threaded connections on stainless fittings, as galling of threads can occur without proper anti-seize compound.
