The MERIT BRASS 4548-001 is a seamless stainless steel pipe nipple designed for use in high-pressure and corrosion-resistant piping systems. Manufactured from Grade 304/304L stainless steel and built to Schedule 80 wall thickness, this nipple delivers the strength and material integrity required in demanding plumbing, HVAC, and industrial process applications. The seamless construction eliminates weld seams, reducing potential failure points in pressurized lines. At 3 inches pipe size with matching 3-inch thread, it installs directly into standard threaded fittings and pipe assemblies. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters working with stainless systems will find this nipple suitable for both new construction and repair work.
This nipple is appropriate for residential and commercial piping systems where corrosion resistance, higher pressure ratings, or sanitary requirements make carbon steel unsuitable. Typical applications include steam lines, chemical transfer, food-grade plumbing, marine installations, and potable water systems where Grade 304 or 304L stainless is specified. The Schedule 80 wall thickness makes it suitable for elevated working pressures compared to Schedule 40 equivalents. It is sold individually, making it practical for single-fitting replacements or small-quantity repairs.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation component for 3-inch Schedule 80 stainless steel threaded piping systems. Compatible with standard NPT threaded fittings and valves specified for Schedule 80 stainless pipe.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable IPC or local plumbing codes. Shut off and depressurize the line completely before removing any existing nipple or fitting. Use an appropriate thread sealant rated for stainless steel and the intended service medium — PTFE tape or an anaerobic thread compound are common choices for stainless NPT connections. Avoid over-torquing threaded stainless connections, as galling can occur without proper anti-seize or sealant application.
