The MERIT BRASS 4502-550 is a seamless stainless steel pipe nipple designed for threaded piping systems requiring corrosion resistance and pressure integrity. Manufactured to Schedule 80 wall thickness from Grade 304/304L stainless steel, this nipple provides greater wall strength than Schedule 40, making it suitable for higher-pressure or more demanding service environments. The 1/8 inch pipe size fits standard NPT threaded connections. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this type of fitting in process piping, instrumentation lines, steam service, and chemical-resistant plumbing assemblies where standard carbon steel or brass is not appropriate.
This nipple is used in both residential and light commercial applications where 1/8 inch threaded connections are required. Typical installations include boiler drain lines, pressure gauge connections, instrument taps, and small-diameter process lines. Grade 304/304L dual certification makes it compatible with applications that require low carbon content to minimize sensitization risk in welded or high-temperature service. Pipefitters and plumbers working on stainless systems will encounter this nipple in HVAC mechanical rooms, industrial process skids, and chemical handling piping.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for standard 1/8 inch NPT threaded piping systems requiring Schedule 80 stainless steel nipples.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable IPC or ASME B31 piping codes. Shut off and depressurize the system fully before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Use appropriate stainless-compatible thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service fluid and temperature range. Avoid using pipe wrenches with serrated jaws directly on the stainless surface to prevent galling; use a strap wrench or jaw protectors where possible.
