The MERIT BRASS 4002-800 is a 1/8 inch stainless steel pipe nipple constructed from Grade 304/304L stainless steel with a welded seam and Schedule 40 wall thickness. This nipple is designed for use in threaded pipe assemblies where corrosion resistance and moderate pressure handling are required. It serves as a short connector between fittings, valves, or equipment ports in plumbing, HVAC, and industrial piping systems. The welded construction meets standard dimensional requirements for NPT-threaded assemblies. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians regularly specify this type of fitting for both new installation and repair work where stainless steel is required for the service environment.
This pipe nipple is suited for residential and light commercial applications involving water, steam, air, and compatible chemical lines where 304 or 304L stainless steel provides adequate corrosion resistance. Schedule 40 wall thickness makes it appropriate for standard-pressure service. It is commonly installed at equipment connections, manifold ports, and riser transitions in plumbing and hydronic systems. Grade 304L is the low-carbon variant, making it preferable when post-weld corrosion resistance at the seam is a concern in wet or corrosive service environments.
Designed as an OEM-style threaded fitting compatible with standard 1/8 inch NPT pipe fittings, valves, and equipment ports in Schedule 40 piping systems.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable IPC or local plumbing code requirements. Shut off and depressurize the line before removing or installing any threaded nipple. Apply an appropriate thread sealant rated for stainless steel and the intended service fluid. Do not over-tighten threaded connections, as stainless steel threads can gall if excessive torque is applied without proper lubrication or sealant.
