The MERIT BRASS 3614D-0802 is a hex pipe bushing machined from 316/316L stainless steel, designed to reduce a 1/2-inch female NPT port down to a 1/8-inch male NPT connection. It carries a 3,000 psi pressure rating, making it a reliable choice in demanding fluid and gas piping systems. The MNPT x FNPT end configuration allows it to thread directly into a female-threaded fitting, valve body, or manifold while accepting a smaller male-threaded line or instrument fitting on the outlet side. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC-R technicians install this type of bushing when adapting between mismatched pipe sizes in tight spaces.
This bushing is suited for use in residential and commercial plumbing, HVAC piping, instrumentation lines, and light industrial process piping where corrosion resistance is a priority. The 316/316L dual-grade stainless steel construction handles exposure to mildly corrosive media, making it appropriate for marine environments, chemical service, or sanitary applications. It fits standard NPT-threaded pipe systems and is commonly installed on pump outlets, manifold ports, pressure gauge connections, and similar transition points requiring a size reduction.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and general-use fitting for standard NPT-threaded pipe systems requiring a 1/2-inch to 1/8-inch bushing reduction in 316 or 316L stainless steel.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable IPC or IFGC requirements. Shut off and depressurize the line completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before making up the joint. Do not overtighten stainless steel fittings, as galling on NPT threads can cause damage that is difficult to reverse.
