The MERIT BRASS 3612D-2420 is a threaded pipe reducer fitting used to transition between 1-1/2 inch and 1-1/4 inch pipe in high-pressure piping systems. Constructed from 316 and 316L stainless steel, it delivers strong corrosion resistance suitable for demanding service environments. The fitting carries a 3,000 psi pressure rating and uses female NPT connections on both ends for straightforward inline installation. Plumbers, pipefitters, and industrial maintenance technicians install this type of reducer to step down pipe diameter within a run without cutting into existing line segments.
This reducer is suited for residential and commercial plumbing, industrial process piping, and fluid handling applications where corrosion-resistant stainless steel is specified. The 316 and 316L material grades perform well in environments exposed to moisture, mild chemicals, or salt. The FNPT x FNPT end configuration threads directly onto male-threaded pipe or fittings on both sides, making it compatible with standard NPT pipe assemblies across a wide range of service conditions.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for standard NPT threaded pipe systems requiring a 1-1/2 inch to 1-1/4 inch reduction in 316 or 316L stainless steel.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified pipefitter. Depressurize and drain the system completely before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Apply appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to male threads before making up the joint. Torque to fitting manufacturer standards and verify for leaks before returning the system to service.
