The MERIT BRASS 3612D-2404 is a threaded pipe reducer fitting machined from 316/316L dual-certified stainless steel. It transitions a 1-1/2 inch female NPT inlet down to a 1/4 inch female NPT outlet, making it a direct in-line reducing connection for piping systems that require a size change without a change in fitting style. The fitting is rated to 3,000 psi and measures 3-7/64 inches in length. At 2.18 pounds, it is a solid, heavy-wall fitting suited for demanding fluid and gas handling applications. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this type of reducer during new construction and retrofit work where pipe size transitions are required.
This reducer is used in industrial, commercial, and process piping systems where corrosion resistance and pressure integrity are critical. The 316/316L material grade provides superior resistance to chlorides and aggressive media compared to 304 stainless, making it appropriate for chemical processing lines, marine environments, food-grade fluid systems, and high-purity water systems. The FNPT x FNPT configuration allows it to thread directly onto male-threaded pipe or fittings on both ends, simplifying installation in tight or inline runs.

Installation is typically performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters in accordance with applicable IPC or ASME B31 piping codes. Depressurize and isolate the line before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service medium to all NPT threads before makeup. Do not overtighten threaded connections, as stainless fittings are susceptible to galling if excessive torque is applied without proper lubrication.
