The MERIT BRASS 3612D-2016 is a threaded pipe reducer fitting machined from 316/316L stainless steel for demanding fluid and gas piping applications. It transitions from a 1-1/4 inch female NPT (FNPT) inlet to a 1 inch FNPT outlet, allowing technicians to reduce pipe size within a run without welding or additional adapters. Rated to 3,000 psi, this fitting handles high-pressure service conditions found in industrial process lines, chemical transfer systems, and mechanical piping. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers. At 2.19 pounds, the fitting is solid and thread-ready for standard NPT connections.
This reducer is suited for residential and commercial plumbing, HVAC hydronic systems, marine piping, and industrial process lines where corrosion resistance is a priority. The 316/316L dual-grade alloy provides resistance to chloride environments and pitting corrosion, making it appropriate for saltwater exposure, chemical service, and sanitary applications. Both end connections are FNPT, so the fitting accepts male-threaded pipe or nipples on each side. It is sold and packaged as a single unit.
Designed as an OEM-style threaded reducer for standard NPT piping systems requiring a 1-1/4 inch to 1 inch reduction in 316 or 316L stainless steel.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters following applicable IPC and ASME B31 piping code requirements. Depressurize and isolate the line completely before removing any existing fitting or installing this reducer. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service medium and pressure before making up the connection. Do not over-torque threaded stainless fittings, as galling can damage threads and compromise the seal.
