The MERIT BRASS 3612D-2008 is a threaded pipe reducer fitting machined from 316/316L stainless steel. It reduces a 1-1/4 inch female NPT (FNPT) inlet down to a 1/2 inch female NPT outlet, making it a direct inline solution for downsizing pipe runs without additional adapters. Rated to 3,000 psi, this reducer is built for high-pressure systems where corrosion resistance is critical. The dual-grade 316/316L designation means the fitting meets both standard and low-carbon requirements, making it suitable for welding-adjacent assemblies and aggressive fluid environments. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of fitting in process, industrial, and commercial plumbing systems.
This reducer is used in applications where stainless steel corrosion resistance is required alongside high working pressure. Typical installations include chemical process lines, marine plumbing, food-grade piping, and commercial water systems where chloride exposure or sanitary standards rule out carbon steel or brass alternatives. The FNPT x FNPT configuration threads directly onto standard NPT pipe and fittings without special tooling.
Designed as an OEM-style threaded reducer for standard NPT piping systems requiring a 1-1/4 inch to 1/2 inch FNPT-to-FNPT reduction in 316/316L stainless steel at up to 3,000 psi.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified pipefitter in accordance with applicable IPC or ASME B31 piping codes. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service fluid and pressure before threading the fitting into place. Do not over-torque stainless steel NPT threads, as galling can occur.
