The MERIT BRASS 3414D-2408 is a threaded pipe bushing machined from 304/304L stainless steel, designed to reduce a 1-1/2 inch female port down to a 1/2 inch male connection in piping systems that demand corrosion resistance and reliable pressure integrity. The bushing uses a male NPT outer thread and female NPT inner thread, making it a direct, wrench-installed fitting with no need for additional adapters. Rated at 3,000 psi, it is suitable for demanding fluid and gas transfer applications where carbon steel fittings would be prone to corrosion. Plumbers, pipefitters, and industrial maintenance technicians are the primary installers of this fitting.
This bushing is appropriate for use in residential, commercial, and light industrial piping systems where stainless steel is specified for corrosion resistance, sanitary requirements, or chemical compatibility. Common install scenarios include process piping, potable water systems, compressed air lines, and hydraulic or instrumentation lines requiring a reduction from 1-1/2 inch to 1/2 inch NPT. Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified pipefitter in accordance with applicable plumbing and piping codes such as the IPC or ASME B31 standards. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads per the sealant manufacturer's instructions and the requirements of the fluid being conveyed. Do not over-torque stainless steel fittings, as galling of the threads can occur; use a calibrated pipe wrench and a backup wrench on adjacent fittings where applicable.
