The MERIT BRASS 3412D-2406 is a threaded pipe reducer fitting designed to connect pipe runs of different diameters in plumbing, industrial, and process piping systems. It features female National Pipe Taper (FNPT) threads on both ends and is rated for service up to 3,000 psi, making it suitable for demanding pressure applications. Constructed from 304/304L stainless steel, this fitting offers strong resistance to corrosion in a wide range of media. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of reducer when transitioning from a 1-1/2-inch line down to a 3/8-inch branch or connection point.
This reducer is appropriate for residential and commercial piping applications where a threaded, stainless steel fitting is required. Typical uses include water supply systems, compressed air lines, and light industrial fluid handling where corrosion resistance and pressure integrity are priorities. The FNPT x FNPT configuration allows direct makeup with standard NPT-threaded pipe and fittings on both the larger and smaller port sides.
Designed as an OEM-style threaded reducer for standard NPT piping systems requiring a 1-1/2-inch to 3/8-inch diameter transition in stainless steel service.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter following applicable IPC or IFGC code requirements for the service application. Shut off system pressure and depressurize the line completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male NPT threads being engaged, and tighten to full thread engagement using a pipe wrench — avoid over-torquing, which can crack fittings or distort threads. Verify pressure integrity with a system pressure test before returning to service.
