The MERIT BRASS 3412D-2008 is a threaded pipe reducer fitting designed to connect piping of two different diameters in industrial and commercial fluid systems. Manufactured from 304/304L stainless steel, it accepts female NPT connections on both ends, with a 1-1/4 inch inlet and a 1/2 inch outlet. Rated to 3,000 psi, this reducer is suited for high-pressure applications where corrosion resistance and mechanical strength are required. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting in process piping, compressed air, and hydraulic or steam distribution systems.
This reducer is a standard choice for reducing line size within threaded pipe assemblies in both residential and commercial settings. The FNPT x FNPT configuration allows direct threaded engagement on both ends without the need for additional adapters. Its 304/304L stainless steel construction makes it appropriate for corrosive environments, including chemical processing, food service, and marine-adjacent utility piping, where carbon steel fittings are not suitable.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for threaded pipe systems using 1-1/4 inch to 1/2 inch FNPT connections in high-pressure fluid or gas service.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable IPC or ASME B31 piping codes. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before disassembling any threaded connections. Apply appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads engaging this fitting, following the sealant manufacturer's instructions for the specific service fluid. Do not over-torque threaded stainless steel fittings, as galling can damage the threads and compromise the seal.
