The MERIT BRASS 2124-800 is a red brass pipe nipple threaded on both ends, sized at 1-1/2 inches NPT with an 8-inch overall length. Red brass construction provides reliable corrosion resistance in water, gas, and steam piping applications where dezincification is a concern. The external threads conform to NPT standards for leak-free engagement with fittings, valves, and couplings. This nipple is installed by licensed plumbers and pipefitters in commercial and residential piping systems. At 1.97 pounds, it is a solid, full-size fitting intended for higher-flow distribution lines and branch connections requiring a longer nipple run.
The 2124-800 is suited for use in potable water supply lines, hydronic heating systems, steam distribution, and general-purpose industrial piping where red brass material is specified. The 1-1/2-inch iron pipe size accommodates moderate-to-high volume flow paths in both residential and light commercial installations. Its OSHA-compliant designation makes it appropriate for workplace and industrial piping installations subject to occupational safety standards. Plumbers and pipefitters typically use this nipple when a standard close or short nipple does not provide adequate thread engagement or clearance for the application.
Designed as a standard OEM-style replacement or new-installation nipple compatible with 1-1/2 inches NPT fittings, valves, couplings, and threaded pipe connections in residential and commercial plumbing and piping systems.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters following applicable IPC or local plumbing codes. Shut off and depressurize the supply line before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly and tighten to hand-tight plus a wrench-tight finish — do not overtighten red brass fittings as they can crack under excessive torque. Verify thread engagement and check for leaks before returning the system to service.
