The MERIT BRASS 2106-550 is a Schedule 40 seamless red brass pipe nipple designed for use in commercial and residential plumbing, OEM equipment, and fluid-handling systems. Measuring 3/8 inch in diameter and 5.5 inches in overall length, this nipple features male threaded connections on both ends for straightforward inline installation. Red brass construction, conforming to ASTM B687-88/B456, delivers reliable corrosion resistance against water, heat, salt water, acids, minerals, and peaty soils. The relative softness of the red brass alloy allows threads to seat tightly, forming a leak-resistant seal without excessive torque. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers for this fitting type.
This nipple is suited for commercial plumbing, OEM assemblies, and utility piping systems handling water, oil, gas, or steam. The 3/8-inch size is commonly specified in branch lines, fixture supplies, and equipment connections where a short close-nipple extension is not sufficient but a long nipple is unnecessary. The seamless construction eliminates a weld seam, which reduces potential leak paths in higher-pressure or corrosive-media applications. Packaged in quantities of 25 per box, this fitting is practical for contractors stocking job-site inventory or replenishing shop supply.
Designed for use in commercial plumbing, OEM equipment, and systems handling water, oil, gas, and steam where a 3/8-inch Schedule 40 male-threaded brass nipple is specified.
Shut off and depressurize the line before removing or installing any pipe fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to male threads before assembly in accordance with local plumbing codes and IPC guidelines. A pipe wrench or strap wrench is the standard tool for tightening brass nipples; avoid over-tightening, which can crack fittings or strip threads. This fitting should be installed by a licensed plumber where code requires.
