The MERIT BRASS 2004-400BSPT is a red brass pipe nipple threaded on both ends, designed for use in fluid and gas piping systems where a short, rigid male-threaded connector is required. The nipple measures 4 inches overall length (OAL) with a 1/4-inch outside diameter and 1/4-inch BSPT (British Standard Pipe Taper) thread form on each end. Constructed from red brass, this nipple offers good corrosion resistance in both water and air service applications. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the typical installers. Its compact form factor makes it well suited for tight-clearance installations and instrument connections where BSPT threading is specified.
This nipple is used in residential and light commercial plumbing, compressed air distribution, hydraulic instrument connections, and other fluid-handling systems that call for BSPT-standard fittings. The BSPT thread form is a tapered thread common in international and industrial piping applications, and care should be taken to confirm that mating fittings also carry a BSPT specification rather than NPT, as the two thread standards are not interchangeable. This part is sold individually and is appropriate for any application requiring a short 4-inch close-to-close nipple at the 1/4-inch pipe size.
Designed as an OEM-style and general-use replacement or installation nipple for piping systems specifying 1/4-inch BSPT threaded connections. Verify that all mating fittings, valves, and ports are rated for BSPT thread form before installation, as BSPT and NPT threads are not directly interchangeable.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified pipefitter in accordance with applicable plumbing codes such as the IPC. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Use an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service fluid and pressure when making up BSPT connections. Do not use excessive force when threading into cast or soft-metal ports, as this can crack the mating component.
