The MERIT BRASS 2002-400BSPT is a red brass pipe nipple threaded on both ends, designed for joining pipe sections in fluid and gas distribution systems. It measures 4 inches overall length with a 1/8 inch BSPT (British Standard Pipe Taper) thread form, making it a common fitting choice where metric-standard thread engagement is required. Red brass construction provides good corrosion resistance for water, steam, and light chemical service. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this type of nipple when connecting threaded pipe runs or adapting between components in close-quarter assemblies.
This nipple is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing, HVAC hydronic systems, compressed air lines, and similar low-to-moderate pressure piping applications. The BSPT thread standard is frequently specified in imported equipment, marine applications, and international OEM assemblies where BSP-threaded ports are standard. The 4 inch overall length provides clearance for fittings on both ends without requiring field cutting or threading.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for threaded piping systems using 1/8 inch BSPT connections in plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical assemblies.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off and depressurize the system before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service medium to all BSPT threads before assembly. Do not overtighten; use a pipe wrench with a backup wrench on the mating fitting to avoid stress on connected components.
