The MERIT BRASS 118-24 is a brass countersunk plug designed for threaded pipe assemblies requiring a flush or recessed closure. It features male NPT (MNPT) external threads and a female NPT (FNPT) countersunk socket, allowing it to seat flush against a fitting face when fully tightened. Rated at 125 psi, this Class 125 plug is suitable for low-pressure pipe systems and is machined from brass for corrosion resistance in water, air, and light fluid service. It is installed by licensed plumbers and pipefitters working on commercial and residential piping systems.
This countersunk plug is used to close off threaded pipe openings in plumbing, HVAC hydronic, and light industrial piping applications. The MNPT x FNPT configuration allows it to thread into a female-threaded port while also accepting a male-threaded fitting or instrument connection on its countersunk face when needed. It is well suited for use in residential and light commercial water supply, drain, and gas-distribution systems where a Class 125 pressure rating meets system requirements.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation component for 1-1/2 inch NPT threaded pipe systems rated at Class 125 or lower pressure service.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter following applicable IPC and local plumbing code requirements. Shut off and depressurize the pipe system completely before removing or installing any threaded plug. Apply thread sealant or PTFE tape to the MNPT threads per standard practice before tightening. Do not overtighten brass fittings, as brass threads can gall or crack under excessive force.
