The MERIT BRASS 01613-4840 is a Schedule 10 eccentric reducer fitting designed to transition piping from a 3-inch nominal diameter down to a 2-1/2-inch nominal diameter. Constructed from 316L stainless steel, this fitting offers enhanced corrosion resistance compared to standard 304-grade material, making it well-suited for demanding fluid-handling environments. The butt weld end connections on both ends allow the fitting to be fully welded into a piping system for a leak-free, permanent joint. At 1.29 pounds, the fitting is lightweight relative to its size, consistent with Schedule 10 wall thickness. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and industrial pipe welders are the typical installers.
This eccentric reducer is used in residential, commercial, and light industrial piping systems where an off-center bore transition is needed to maintain a level bottom or top of pipe — a critical design consideration in drainage, venting, and pump suction lines. The eccentric geometry prevents air pockets from forming in horizontal runs, which is especially important in pump suction applications. Installation of this butt weld fitting requires a qualified pipefitter or welder following applicable codes, including ASME B31.3 for process piping or applicable IPC provisions for plumbing systems. Depressurize, drain, and isolate the piping segment before cutting in the fitting. Proper fit-up, tacking, and full-penetration butt welds are required — do not use this fitting with mechanical or threaded connections. Post-weld passivation of 316L stainless steel is recommended in corrosive or sanitary service environments.
