The MERIT BRASS 01613-2408 is a Schedule 10 eccentric reducer fitting used to transition between pipe sizes in stainless steel piping systems. Sized at 1-1/2 inches by 1/2 inches with butt weld end connections on both ends, this reducer offsets the pipe centerlines to keep the bottom of the run flat — a critical requirement in drainage, process, and sloped-flow applications. Constructed from 316L stainless steel, the low-carbon alloy grade provides improved weld corrosion resistance compared to standard 316, making it well suited for corrosive fluid service and sanitary installations. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the typical installers.
This eccentric reducer is used in residential and commercial piping systems where maintaining a consistent bottom-of-pipe elevation is necessary to prevent pooling or air pockets. Common applications include process piping, chemical transfer lines, food and beverage systems, and marine or coastal installations where chloride resistance is required. The butt weld connections require proper fit-up and qualified weld procedures in accordance with the applicable piping code for the installation.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation eccentric reducer for Schedule 10 stainless steel butt weld piping systems sized at 1-1/2 inches by 1/2 inches.
Installation requires a qualified pipefitter or welder trained in stainless steel butt weld procedures. Purge the weld interior with an inert gas such as argon to prevent oxidation of the 316L alloy during the weld pass. Follow applicable codes such as ASME B31.3 for process piping or ASME B31.1 for power piping. Isolate and depressurize the line fully before cutting into any live system.
