The MERIT BRASS 01613-12848 is a Schedule 10 eccentric reducer fitting designed for piping systems that require an offset centerline transition between two pipe sizes. Constructed from 316L stainless steel, this fitting steps down from an 8-inch pipe to a 3-inch pipe using butt weld end connections on both ends. The 316L material grade offers low carbon content, which reduces the risk of carbide precipitation during welding and supports use in corrosive or high-purity process environments. Licensed pipefitters and industrial plumbing contractors install this type of fitting in process piping, chemical transfer, food-grade, and pharmaceutical systems.
This eccentric reducer is suited for commercial and industrial piping applications where maintaining a flat bottom or top run is required to aid drainage or prevent air pockets. The eccentric geometry offsets the pipe centerlines, making it the preferred choice over concentric reducers in horizontal pump suction lines and drainage-sensitive runs. It connects via butt weld on both ends, requiring field welding in compliance with applicable piping codes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Schedule 10 stainless steel process piping systems using butt weld end connections.
Installation must be performed by a qualified pipefitter or welder certified to the applicable piping code, such as ASME B31.3 for process piping or ASME B31.1 for power piping. Purge and depressurize the line completely before cutting in any new fitting. Butt weld connections require proper fit-up, alignment, and back-purging with inert gas when welding stainless steel to prevent oxidation of the weld zone. Do not use this fitting as a structural support point.
