The MERIT BRASS 01606-6424 is a reducing pipe tee fitting fabricated from 316L stainless steel and designed for Schedule 10 butt weld piping systems. It connects a 4-inch run pipe to a 1-1/2-inch branch outlet using butt weld end connections on all three ports. The 316L alloy provides low carbon content, which reduces carbide precipitation during welding and improves corrosion resistance in aggressive media. This fitting is installed by licensed pipefitters and industrial plumbers in process, mechanical, and commercial piping systems where a clean, full-penetration weld joint is required.
This reducing tee is suited for commercial and light industrial applications including HVAC chilled water and condenser water piping, process fluid distribution, and corrosion-resistant piping systems. Schedule 10 wall thickness makes it appropriate for lower-pressure service lines. The butt weld end connection type requires proper pipe preparation, fit-up, and certified welding procedures before installation. Verify pipe schedule and outside diameter compatibility before ordering.
Designed for use with Schedule 10 stainless steel pipe at 4-inch run and 1-1/2-inch branch dimensions using butt weld end connections.
Installation must be performed by a qualified pipefitter or welder following applicable codes including ASME B31.3 for process piping or ASME B31.9 for building services piping. Pipe ends must be beveled, cleaned, and properly fit up before welding. Shut down and depressurize the system completely before cutting into any existing line. Do not apply heat to a pressurized or fluid-filled pipe.
