The MERIT BRASS 01408-20 is a 90-degree short radius elbow fitting designed for directional pipe changes in tight-clearance piping systems. Constructed from 304L stainless steel, this Schedule 10 fitting uses a butt weld end connection and is threaded for secure assembly. At 1-1/4 inches, it fits standard pipe sizes common in commercial and industrial plumbing, process piping, and HVAC hydronic systems. The low-carbon 304L grade provides good corrosion resistance and is suited for welded fabrications where post-weld sensitization is a concern. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors are the primary installers of this type of fitting.
This short radius elbow is used in applications where space constraints prevent the use of a long radius elbow, including equipment rooms, mechanical chases, and process lines. It is appropriate for use in residential and commercial plumbing, light industrial piping, and hydronic heating systems. The 304L stainless steel construction supports use in corrosive or sanitary environments where carbon steel fittings are not suitable. Its Schedule 10 wall thickness is compatible with standard Schedule 10 stainless steel pipe in the 1-1/4 inch size.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Schedule 10 stainless steel piping systems using 1-1/4 inch nominal pipe size with butt weld end connections.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified pipefitter following applicable IPC and ASME B16.9 standards. Depressurize and drain the piping system completely before cutting or fitting any connections. Butt weld joints require proper fit-up, tacking, and full-penetration welding by a qualified welder; do not use this fitting with mechanical or compression connections for which it was not designed. Inspect welds for defects before returning the system to service.
