The MERIT BRASS 01406-2016 is a reducing pipe tee fabricated from 304L stainless steel for use in Schedule 10 piping systems. It features butt weld end connections on all three outlets, with a 1-1/4 inch run and a 1 inch branch. The 304L alloy designation indicates low carbon content, which reduces sensitization risk during welding and helps maintain corrosion resistance in the heat-affected zone. At 0.52 pounds, this fitting is suited for light-gauge stainless systems where weight and weld integrity both matter. Licensed pipefitters and plumbers are the typical installers for this class of fitting.
This tee is appropriate for residential and commercial piping applications where Schedule 10 stainless steel is specified. Butt weld fittings of this type are common in potable water, chemical process, food service, and HVAC hydronic systems where threaded or mechanical connections are not preferred. The reducing configuration allows a branch takeoff at a smaller diameter than the main run, making it useful in distribution headers and branch supply lines.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Schedule 10 stainless steel piping systems using butt weld end connections in 1-1/4 inch by 1 inch reducing configurations.
Installation of butt weld stainless fittings requires a licensed pipefitter or qualified welder using TIG or MIG welding processes appropriate for 304L stainless steel. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before cutting into an existing line. Purge the pipe interior with an inert gas such as argon during welding to prevent oxidation on the inside of the weld. Follow applicable codes including ASME B31.1 or B31.3 as required by the system classification.
