The MERIT ABRASIVES OLD08834167104 is a coated quick-change abrasive disc designed for use with Power-Lock Type R attaching systems on handheld disc sanders. At 1.5 inches in diameter and rated to 30,000 RPM, this disc carries an 80-grit medium-grade zirconia alumina abrasive bonded to a heavy Y-weight polyester backing. The flexible polyester cloth construction handles aggressive stock removal without loading or glazing. A self-lubricating treatment reduces heat buildup during extended grinding runs, extending disc life and improving cut consistency on hard and abrasive workpiece materials.
This disc is suited for metal fabrication, weld blending, deburring, and surface prep work across a wide range of materials. Rated applications include 300 and 400 series stainless steel, aluminum, brass, bronze, hard and soft carbon steels, fiberglass and composite materials, and hard and soft woods. The quick-change Type R mounting system allows fast disc swaps without tools, making it practical for production environments and fieldwork. It is used by metal fabricators, pipefitters, welders, and general maintenance trades operating handheld disc sanders.
Designed for use with handheld disc sanders equipped with a Power-Lock Type R quick-change attaching system. Compatible workpiece materials include 300 series stainless, 400 series stainless, aluminum, brass, bronze, fiberglass and composites, hard carbon steels, soft carbon steels, hard woods, and soft woods.
Installation and disc changes should be performed with the tool powered off and unplugged or the battery removed. Verify the spindle speed of the tool does not exceed the 30,000 RPM maximum rating marked on the disc before use. Inspect the disc for damage before mounting and discard any disc that shows cracks, tears, or delamination. Eye protection and appropriate PPE should be worn during all grinding operations per ANSI and applicable shop safety standards.
