The MERIT ABRASIVES 69957399639 is a coated abrasive quick-change disc engineered for use with Power-Lock Type 2 (TS / Type II) handheld disc sanders. The disc measures 2 inches in diameter and runs a 40-grit aluminum oxide grain on a rigid, X-weight, 2-ply cloth and polyester backing. At 40 grit, this is an extra-coarse grade suited for aggressive material removal rather than finish work. Maximum rated speed is 30,000 RPM. The brown disc mounts via a Type S attaching system for fast tool-free swaps between grits during production grinding and deburring operations.
This disc is designed for deburring, cleaning, and surface detailing on a broad range of metals including 300 and 400 series stainless steel, aluminum, brass, bronze, hard carbon steels, soft carbon steels, and titanium. It is used primarily in fabrication, welding prep, and maintenance applications where a rigid-backed, high-speed small disc is needed to work in tight areas or on curved surfaces. The handheld disc sander is the intended machine. The coarse grit makes it most productive on heavier scale, weld spatter, and burr removal rather than blending or polishing passes.
Compatible with handheld disc sanders that accept Power-Lock Type 2 (TS / Type II) quick-change mandrels with a Type S attaching system. Suitable for use on 300 series stainless, 400 series stainless, aluminum, brass, bronze, hard carbon steels, soft carbon steels, and titanium workpieces.
Installation is performed by metal fabricators, maintenance technicians, and machinists using a compatible Type S quick-change mandrel. Before mounting or removing the disc, ensure the tool is powered off and disconnected from its power source. Verify the tool's free-speed RPM rating meets or exceeds the disc's 30,000 RPM maximum before operation. Inspect the disc for damage before each use and do not use a disc that shows cracks, tears, or backing separation.
