The MERIT ABRASIVES 08834172045 is a 6-inch PSA (pressure-sensitive adhesive) abrasive disc designed for aggressive material removal on metal, wood, and composite surfaces. It uses aluminum oxide abrasive at 36 grit, placing it in the very coarse grade range — appropriate for rapid stock removal, weld grinding, surface leveling, and paint or coating strip work. The disc features a flexible cloth backing that conforms to irregular surfaces without tearing under load. The PSA backing allows direct peel-and-stick mounting to compatible backup pads, making disc changes fast in production or field environments. Fabricators, welders, metalworkers, and finishing technicians are the primary users of this disc type.
This disc is suited for use on stationary disc sanders, portable sanders, and angle grinder backup pad assemblies that accept 6-inch PSA-style discs. The very coarse 36-grit cut makes it best applied during initial shaping, aggressive deburring, heavy rust or scale removal, and preparation of raw metal before progressing to finer grits. It is not intended for finish passes or fine surface conditioning. No vacuum holes are included, so it is not designed for dust-extraction sanding systems. The flexible cloth backing makes it an effective choice on contoured or slightly curved workpieces where a rigid disc would load or skip.
Designed for use with 6-inch PSA backup pads on disc sanders, random orbital sanders, and angle grinder assemblies that accept pressure-sensitive adhesive abrasive discs.
Licensed fabricators and metalworking professionals should ensure the backup pad diameter matches the 6-inch disc before mounting. Power down and disconnect the tool from its power source before swapping discs. Press the PSA disc firmly onto a clean, dry backup pad surface to ensure full adhesive contact and prevent disc separation during operation. Do not exceed the maximum RPM rating of the backup pad or tool; verify tool speed compatibility before use.
