The MERIT ABRASIVES 08834167116 is a 3-inch coated quick-change abrasive disc designed for aggressive stock removal, weld blending, and deburring on metal and wood surfaces. It uses a zirconia alumina abrasive blend with a self-lubricating treatment that promotes fast cutting, extended disc life, and reduced heat buildup during grinding. The 50-grit coarse grade mounts on a Type R (Power-Lock) attaching system and is rated for handheld disc sanders operating up to 20,000 RPM. A heavy Y-weight polyester backing provides flexibility and durability under sustained load. Licensed trade professionals and fabricators working with ferrous and non-ferrous metals rely on this disc for surface prep and finishing tasks.
This disc is suited for handheld disc sander applications across light fabrication, maintenance, and surface preparation work. It is engineered for use on 300 Series and 400 Series stainless steel, aluminum, brass, bronze, fiberglass and composites, hard and soft carbon steels, and hard and soft woods. The flexible Y-weight polyester backing allows the disc to conform to slightly irregular surfaces, making it practical for weld seam blending and deburring on contoured workpieces as well as flat stock.
Designed for use with handheld disc sanders equipped with a Type R quick-change attaching system. Material applications include 300 Series Stainless, 400 Series Stainless, Aluminum, Brass, Bronze, Fiberglass and Composites, Hard Carbon Steels, Soft Carbon Steels, Hard Woods, and Soft Woods.
Mounting and disc changes should be performed with the sander powered off and disconnected from its power source. Verify the tool spindle accepts a Type R quick-change interface before installation. Always confirm tool RPM does not exceed the 20,000 RPM disc rating prior to operation. Eye protection and appropriate PPE are required when operating abrasive discs on any power tool.
