The MERIT ABRASIVES 08834167109 is a 2-inch coated quick-change abrasive disc designed for high-speed material removal on metal, wood, and composite surfaces. It uses a zirconia alumina abrasive grain with a self-lubricating treatment that accelerates cut rate, extends disc life, and reduces heat buildup during grinding. The disc mounts via a Type R attaching system with TR (Type III) quick-change compatibility, rated to 30,000 RPM. The heavy Y-weight polyester backing provides rigidity and durability under load. This disc is installed and used by metal fabricators, pipefitters, welders, and other trade professionals who use handheld disc sanders for stock removal and surface prep.
This disc is suited for coarse-grade applications including weld blending, deburring, and stock removal. Rated material applications include 300 series stainless steel, 400 series stainless steel, aluminum, brass, bronze, fiberglass and composites, hard carbon steels, soft carbon steels, hard woods, and soft woods. It is intended for use with handheld disc sanders in both shop and field environments. The coarse 50-grit designation makes it most appropriate for aggressive initial passes rather than finishing work.
Compatible with handheld disc sanders that accept TR (Type III) quick-change discs with a Type R attaching system. Rated material applications include 300 and 400 series stainless steel, aluminum, brass, bronze, fiberglass and composites, hard and soft carbon steels, and hard and soft woods.
Installation is performed by the operator using a TR-compatible quick-change mandrel on a handheld disc sander. Verify the tool spindle speed does not exceed the 30,000 RPM disc rating before mounting. Inspect the disc for damage before each use and do not use damaged or delaminated discs. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment including eye protection and gloves when operating abrasive discs.
