The MERIT ABRASIVES 08834167073 is a 3-inch quick-change abrasive disc in the R887D series, designed for aggressive stock removal, weld blending, and deburring on metal and wood surfaces. It uses a zirconia alumina abrasive grain at 40 grit (extra coarse) and mounts via a Type S Power-Lock attachment system. The disc features a Y-weight polyester backing that is waterproof and flexible, making it durable under heavy grinding loads. Rated to 20,000 RPM, it is suited for use with handheld disc sanders in production and fabrication environments. Installation and swap-out are handled by metal fabricators and general tradespeople working with angle grinders and handheld disc sanders.
This disc is engineered for use on a broad range of materials including 300 and 400 series stainless steel, aluminum, brass, bronze, hard and soft carbon steels, and hard and soft woods. Its semi-open coat construction resists loading when working softer metals or wood. The coarse 40-grit cut rate makes it a go-to choice for initial stock removal passes, weld bead blending, and edge deburring in fabrication shops and field metalwork applications. It is compatible with handheld disc sanders that accept Type S quick-change mounts.
Compatible with handheld disc sanders accepting a Type S quick-change mount. Rated for use on 300 series stainless, 400 series stainless, aluminum, brass, bronze, hard carbon steels, soft carbon steels, hard woods, and soft woods.
Installation is performed by aligning the disc hub with the Type S Power-Lock spindle and pressing until the locking mechanism seats. Before changing discs, power down the tool and allow the spindle to come to a complete stop. Verify the tool RPM rating meets or does not exceed the 20,000 RPM disc rating before operation. Eye protection and appropriate PPE should be worn during all grinding operations per applicable workplace safety standards.
