The MERIT ABRASIVES 08834167072 is a 3-inch zirconia alumina quick-change disc designed for aggressive stock removal, weld blending, and deburring on a wide range of metals and wood materials. Rated to 20,000 RPM, it uses a Power-Lock Type 2 (TS/Type II) attaching system for fast, tool-free disc swaps on handheld disc sanders. The 36-grit, extra-coarse abrasive surface is backed by a Y-weight polyester backing that is waterproof and durable under heavy use. A semi-open coat construction reduces loading and extends disc life during extended grinding sessions. This disc ships individually and has a minimum order quantity of 50 units.
This disc is suited for fabrication shops, welding operations, and metalworking environments where rapid material removal is the priority. Typical applications include blending welds on 300 and 400 series stainless steel, deburring aluminum, brass, and bronze components, and grinding hard and soft carbon steels. It also performs on hard and soft woods where aggressive shaping or smoothing is required. The flexible polyester backing allows the disc to conform slightly to contoured surfaces, making it useful in situations where a rigid disc would lose contact.
Designed for use with handheld disc sanders equipped with a Power-Lock TS (Type II) quick-change hub. Compatible material applications include 300 series stainless, 400 series stainless, aluminum, brass, bronze, hard carbon steels, soft carbon steels, hard woods, and soft woods.
Installation requires a compatible TS (Type II) Power-Lock mandrel mounted in a handheld disc sander. Before mounting, confirm the tool RPM rating meets or exceeds the disc maximum of 20,000 RPM and that the mandrel and disc are free of debris. Always power down and disconnect the tool before changing discs. Wear appropriate eye and face protection whenever operating abrasive discs at speed.
