The MERIT ABRASIVES 08834163540 is a TR (Type III) quick-change disc designed for surface conditioning, blending, and finishing on metal and composite materials. Built on a flexible polyester and nylon web backing, this 1.5-inch diameter non-woven disc uses aluminum oxide abrasive grain with Clean Bond resin technology to deliver a smear-free finish without loading or glazing. At a coarse grade, it provides moderate material removal while the high-loft nylon fiber construction extends disc life beyond standard woven alternatives. The disc is rated to 30,000 RPM and connects via a Type R attaching system for fast, tool-free changes.
This disc is suited for metal fabrication, weld blending, deburring, and surface prep work across a wide range of materials including 300 and 400 series stainless steel, hard and soft carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, super alloys, and fiberglass or composite substrates. It mounts on die grinders, inline grinders, straight grinders, and handheld disc sanders, making it a practical choice for both shop and field service work where consistent surface quality is required across varied base materials.
Compatible with die grinders, inline grinders, straight grinders, and handheld disc sanders that accept a TR (Type III) quick-change Type R attaching system. Rated for use on 300 series stainless, 400 series stainless, hard carbon steels, soft carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, super alloys, and fiberglass or composite materials.
Installation is performed by a qualified metalworker, fabricator, or maintenance technician using a compatible quick-change mandrel. Confirm the tool spindle speed does not exceed the 30,000 RPM disc rating before mounting. Inspect the disc and mandrel for damage before each use, and ensure the attaching button is fully seated and locked prior to operation. Always use appropriate eye protection and follow applicable shop safety requirements when operating angle grinders or inline tools.
