The MERIT ABRASIVES 08834161651 is a 3-inch quick-change abrasive disc designed for surface conditioning, blending, and finishing on a wide range of metals and composites. It uses a Type R (Power-Lock) attaching system for fast, tool-free disc changes on compatible grinders. The abrasive material is aluminum oxide grain bonded with resin to a flexible non-woven nylon backing, producing a smooth cut rate and a consistent, uniform surface finish. Rated to 20,000 RPM, this coarse-grade disc handles aggressive material removal without loading. The non-woven backing resists tearing under the flex and pressure typical of contoured surface work.
This disc is suited for use on 300 and 400 series stainless steel, hard and soft carbon steels, tool steels, super alloys, titanium, and fiberglass and composite materials. It is intended for installation on die grinders, inline grinders, straight grinders, and handheld disc sanders. Typical applications include weld blending, deburring, scale removal, and pre-paint surface prep in fabrication shops, maintenance facilities, and industrial service environments. The coarse grade makes it appropriate for initial stock removal passes before transitioning to finer finishing steps.
Designed for use with die grinders, inline grinders, straight grinders, and handheld disc sanders equipped with a Type R (Power-Lock) quick-change arbor. Material applications include 300 Series Stainless, 400 Series Stainless, fiberglass and composites, hard carbon steels, soft carbon steels, super alloys, titanium, and tool steels.
Installation and disc changes must be performed with the grinder powered off and unplugged or air supply disconnected. Verify the tool spindle speed rating meets or exceeds the disc maximum RPM before mounting. Seat the Type R quick-change button firmly into the arbor until it locks before starting the tool. Wear appropriate eye protection and follow ANSI B7.1 and employer safety guidelines when operating abrasive discs.
