The MERIT ABRASIVES 08834160449 is a 2-inch ceramic alumina quick-change abrasive disc designed for aggressive stock removal and surface finishing on metal. Built on a heavy Y-weight polyester backing, this disc handles the mechanical stress of handheld disc sander applications without breaking down prematurely. The Type R Power-Lock attachment system allows for fast disc changes without tools. At 36 grit, this is a very coarse cutting disc rated to 30,000 RPM, suited for weld blending, deburring, and rapid material removal on hard and soft metals alike. A self-lubricating treatment in the ceramic alumina blend reduces heat buildup and extends disc life compared to standard aluminum oxide alternatives.
This disc is intended for use on 300 series stainless steel, 400 series stainless steel, cast iron, and soft carbon steels. It is compatible with handheld disc sanders equipped with a Type R quick-change interface. The coarse 36-grit cut makes it a practical choice for first-pass weld blending, surface prep before coating, and heavy deburring operations in fabrication shops, maintenance environments, and field metalwork. The red disc color is consistent with the Merit SG R981 series product family.
Compatible with handheld disc sanders using a Type R quick-change attachment system. Rated for use on 300 series stainless steel, 400 series stainless steel, cast iron, and soft carbon steels.
Install and removal of quick-change discs should be performed with the tool unpowered and disconnected from its power source or air supply. Confirm the spindle attachment is fully seated before operating. Always verify the tool RPM rating meets or exceeds the disc maximum RPM before use. Wear appropriate PPE including eye protection and gloves when operating abrasive grinding equipment.
