The MERIT 04406-4016 is a reducing tee pipe fitting designed for use in stainless steel piping systems where a branch connection of a smaller diameter is required. Constructed from 304/304L stainless steel, this fitting offers solid corrosion resistance in both standard and mildly aggressive service environments. It is rated to Schedule 40/Standard wall thickness and joins pipe via butt weld connection, making it suitable for permanent, high-integrity installations. The nominal size is 2-1/2 x 2-1/2 x 1 inch, with the run sized at 2-1/2 inches and the branch outlet at 1 inch. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors are the typical installers of this type of fitting.
This reducing tee is suited for commercial and industrial piping applications where a 2-1/2 inch main run requires a 1 inch branch takeoff. Common systems include process piping, HVAC hydronic distribution, industrial fluid handling, and sanitary or utility lines constructed from stainless steel. The butt weld end style makes it appropriate for welded pipeline assemblies where leak-free, permanent joints are required. It is an imported fitting manufactured to standard dimensional tolerances for Schedule 40 stainless steel pipe fittings.
Designed as a standard butt weld reducing tee for use with 2-1/2 inch Schedule 40 stainless steel pipe on the run and 1 inch Schedule 40 stainless steel pipe on the branch outlet.
Installation requires a qualified pipefitter or welder certified for stainless steel butt weld connections. The pipe ends must be properly beveled, cleaned, and purged prior to welding to prevent oxidation of the weld zone. Depressurize and isolate the piping system fully before cutting into any existing line. Follow applicable codes including ASME B16.9 for butt weld fittings and local mechanical or plumbing codes governing the specific service application.
