The MATCO-NORCA zmbbu1009 is a black malleable iron bushing used to reduce pipe thread sizes in threaded piping systems. It transitions from a 3-inch female thread to a 2.5-inch male thread, allowing installers to step down pipe diameter at a fitting connection. The black iron finish suits gas piping, compressed air lines, and similar low-pressure threaded systems. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting as part of standard threaded assembly work in both new construction and retrofit applications.
This bushing is suited for residential and light commercial piping systems where a threaded hex bushing is required to reduce a pipe or fitting opening. Typical applications include natural gas distribution piping, propane systems, compressed air distribution, and black iron water lines where local code permits. The fitting is installed directly into a tee, elbow, coupling, or other threaded fitting to accept a smaller-diameter pipe or valve.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or stock fitting for standard NPT threaded piping systems requiring a 3-inch to 2.5-inch reduction.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters following applicable IPC or IFGC code requirements. Shut off and depressurize the piping system completely before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Apply an approved thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before making up the joint. Do not overtighten malleable iron fittings, as the material can crack under excessive torque.
